(1) In country X, among the population
over the age of 25, 26 percent of the
male population and 16 percent of the
female population possess college
diplomas.
(2) In country X, women account for
55 percent of the total population.

stat 1 tells us the relative ratios of men and women above the age of 25. It does not establish this relationship to the whole population.

stat 2 again tells us that 55% of entire pop is female but does not demarcate between how many people are below or above 25.

So the correct answer is E.
