28 people admitted to hospital come for surgery, but not all the people admitted to hospital come for surgery. How many people in total are admitted to the hospital?
1). 40% of the people admitted to the hospital come for surgery
Let x be the number of people admitted to the hospital, then the number of people admitted to hospital for surgery = (40/100)x = 28, i.e. x = 70.
Sufficient to answer the question.
2). the people who do not come for surgery is 50% greater than the people who come for surgery
Let y(=28) be the number of people admitted to hospital for surgery, then 1.5y is the number of people who do not come to hospital for surgery. Total number of people admitted to the hospital = 2.5y =2.5*28 = 70
Sufficient to answer the question.
