Many TV viewers own devices that can be set up to record shows automatically so that viewers can watch them later. Companies that advertise on television complain that the use of these devices hurts their business since the product makes it possible to watch television programs while selectively editing out commercials. Which of the following, if true, would most strengthen the companies ’argument that the use of these TV recording devices is hurting their business?

A. The methods for determining audience size, which in turn determines charges for advertising time, count households that are merely recording a program as well as households that are watching it.
B. Television recording device manufacturers who advertise on television would themselves suffer the damage, if any, to advertisers ’interests that is caused by their product.
C. Studies show that TV commercials are by far the most effective form of advertising.
D. The use of these devices increases the popularity of TV watching.
E. Some television commercials are as entertaining or informative as the programs they interrupt.

I go with C

Becasue the complaint is from the companies that advertise on televisions.

and acoording to C,
'Studies show that TV commercials are by far the most effective form of advertising. '

when by using new device, consumers, edit commercials that are very effective way for companies to reach consumers, which is the reason for the compaint from the companies.

What is OA anyway?

IMO:A

methods for determining audience size & charges for advertising time depends on number of people watchin the advert.

If number of people using devices increase, advertizment viewers will decrease(audience size will decrease), thus more ads will b edited.

As a result advertizing companies will suffer.

OA is A but i am also more convinced with C.

"Companies that advertise on television" can be advertising companies or the other companies advertising for their product or services.

Product allows users to skip the most effective form of advertising and it will definitely affect the business

My answer is A.

C doesnt at all talk abt how using device hamper the advertisement revenue and in turn affect the business of adveertising companies

A is a very clear answer.

Still not convinced about "A". "A" indicates that it is possible to monitor who is watching the ads or not but it does not offer any support for how business is hampered as a result.

In "C", the fact that TV advertising is the most "effective" would indicate that it is the best avenue to boost revenues. With people not actually watching the TV commercials, that would undermine a company's ability to generate revenues- and hence, it would hurt business. What am I missing here? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

In the argument the "Companies that advertise on television " refers to Advertising companies not the product companies.
Product companies are out of scope here.

So answer A makes sense.

A) makes sense if it's referring to advertising companies.

But the statement doesn't make clear if it's product or advertising companies. It just says companies.. :(
