The university science library, as most libraries, prohibits students to borrow rare, expensive, or popular reference materials; such materials are designated for use in the library only.

A) as most libraries, prohibits students to borrow

B) like most libraries, prohibits students from borrowing

C) as most libraries, will prohibit a student from borrowing

D) like most libraries, prohibits students to borrow

E)like most libraries that prohibit a student from borrowing

OAB

I got this one right .

Just to know that why E is wrong.

B is the right answer.....

E is wrong simply because subject-verb agreement error...
Instead of 'prohibit' it should use 'prohibits' Since subject is "The University Science library"..
I hope its clear...

Typically, the GMAT will use a semi-colon to separate two independent clauses. (There are exceptions to this, such as when semi-colons are used to separate elements of a list in which each element contains a comma. For example, "on my road trip, I visited Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York, New York; and Boston, Massachusetts. We're not dealing with such a case here, but know that it's possible.)

Now look at answer choice E: The university science library like most libraries that prohibit a student from borrowing rare, expensive, or popular reference materials; such materials are designated for use in the library only. The piece before the semi-colon begins with a subject, "the university science library," and is followed by a long modifier. Notice that there's no main verb here. Therefore, there is no independent clause, so E incorrectly uses a semi-colon.

Compare this option to B: The university science library, like most libraries, prohibits students from borrowing rare, expensive, or popular reference materials; such materials are designated for use in the library only.
Now we get our subject, "the university science library, followed by a short modifier," "like most libraries," and then we get the main verb, "prohibits."

Most importantly, in B, we have independent clauses on either side of the semi-colon.

Parallelism question: which one is correct of these two and why. why the other one is wrong
A: Many engineers choose to seek employment in the suburbs rather than to face low salaries in the city.
B: Many engineers choose to seek employment in the suburbs rather than face low salaries in the city.
