direct object

by Vignesh.4384 » Tue Sep 30, 2008 8:55 am
Hi ,

I had read that a verb could be followed by a infinitive or direct object or a adverb .

In this case the verb is followed by only a part of the direct object.
Is that ok ? OA is A
Even B comes close but "have led" is a problem.

in this question led is the verd . is the direct object "construction" or " construction of three seperate sewer" ?

Pls explain

Only reason that comes to my mind is use of perfect tense, which may not be justified as per the sentence.

there's actually no direct object at all.

you can tell that this is the case because the verb ("led") is followed DIRECTLY by a prepositional phrase. if there were a direct object, that object would have to precede the prepositional phrase.

here are two examples that will probably clear this up a bit:
i led the dog to the bowl of food --> 'dog' is the direct object of 'led'
the path led to the bowl of food --> 'led' lacks a direct object
