whats the difference between "interaction between" and "interaction of"
It seems likely that a number of astronomical phenomena, such as the formation of planetary nebulas, may be caused by the interaction where two stars orbit each other at close range.

(A) may be caused by the interaction where two stars orbit each other

(B) may be caused by the interaction between two stars that each orbit the other

(C) are because of the interaction between two stars that orbit each other

(D) are caused by the interaction of two stars where each is orbiting the other

(E) are caused by the interaction of two stars orbiting each other

I would go with

(E) are caused by the interaction of two stars orbiting each other

"It seems likely" and "May be" , have similar meaning.

C and D are awkwardly constructed.

OA please

winnerhere,

The original sentence is trying to imply a Cause so we needs to reflect that in our answer. Interaction Causes the Phenomenon

IMO, the phrases should be used as follows:

interaction between - interaction between X and Y
interaction of - Interaction of X with Y

Answer is C:

If you guys are confused between C and E, here is my explaination for choosing E.

One of the principle in SC is "pick the sentence that is most economic with words." That is, if I can convey a message with 10 words, why should I choose 11?

Similar is the difference between C and E,
C. are because of the interaction between two stars that orbit each other
E. are caused by the interaction of two stars orbiting each other

Lets remove the common words
we are left with following
because of...is replaced by Caused by....fine, no change in number of words. Lets move on.

That orbit is replaced by one word orbitting.

Another thing to note here is phenomena are CAUSED by some thing...Things HAPPEN BECAUSE OF something. Phenomena can not happen...they are caused...

So, what I feel is catch in this question is not "interaction", catch is to find out concise sentence and usage of right grammer.

OG way of negating option C is::

"are" requires a verb form i.e. 'caused', rather than an adverb i.e. 'because'..
