Hi everyone,
Just took the GMAT for the first time on Friday and got a whopping 770! I've been surfing this website everyday and haven't been active posting so far. It's time I gave back to the community and share my experience with all of you. First of all, I big shout out and thank you to Eric for creating this awesome website, stumbling across BEATtheGMAT on facebbok was the best thing that could have happened to my GMAT studying. Also, no less deserving of thanks is Brent for the 60 day study guide; I don't think I would have been nearly as successful without this plan and your continued encouragement!
My story:
Initial Resources:
- OG13
- GMATPREP free software
I bought the OG13 from mba.com and starting plowing through it, spending 3-4 hours a night answering practice questions. I took both diagnostic tests and reviewed math and verbal materials. After about a month I took my first prep exam - scored 640. Extremely bummed out!
Phase 2:
- signed up for 60 day study guide daily emails
- Manhattan GMAT complete guide set 5th edition - well worth the money!
- GMATPREP expansion add-on to expand question bank for practice question and practice exams.
* I highly recommend scheduling your test date 63-65 days from when you start the study guide, so you can make up any missed/incomplete days without stressing out or feeling that you need to 'catch up'.
I basically followed the study guide emails and took the free GMAT exams:
GMATPrep Exam 1 640 (before study guide)
GMATPrep Exam 1 710
GMATPrep Exam 1 720
GMATPrep Exam 2 730
Veritas 51 720
Manhattan GMAT 710
Princeton Review 760
Kaplan GMAT 620
GMATPrep Exam 2 750
Manhattan GMAT 720
On the few days before my test date I made sure to get 7-8 hours sleep each night to make sure that I was well rested. I also followed the advice of an MGMAT article and brought gatorade with me to the test and a couple of granola 'trail mix' bars. I got there nice and early @ 7:15am (Exam @ 8am) so I didn't feel rushed and so I could get myself 'into the zone'. I drank some gatorade before the exam and then used each brake to drink 1 cup of gatorade and eat a granola bar (and go to the bathroom, lol!). Obviously, I couldn't believe my eyes when I submitted my score and got the results - feels great! Thanks BEATtheGMAT and 60 day study guide, couldn't have done this without you!
