(B) A baby emerges from the darkness of the womb with a rudimentary sense of vision that would be rated about 20/500, or legally blind as an adult.

A - it refers to (baby, womb or vision - not clear.
B - legally blind incorrectly modifies "vision".
C - it refers to (baby or womb) - not clear.
E - same as C n B.

hence IMO D.

Thanks!

any other reasons why E is wrong?

Misplaced Modifier : the Bold part has to come before Adult.

(E) As a baby emerges from the darkness of the womb, its rudimentary sense of vision, which would be deemed legally blind for an adult, would be rated about 20/500.
Hope this helps

Also note that E includes the modifier which that erroneously modifies the word vision.

Can anyone explain how did you come up with the correct answer choice?

It took me around 5 minutes to find the correct answer choice.

hey,
D. A baby emerges from the darkness of the womb with a rudimentary sense of vision that would be rated about 20/500; an adult with such vision would be deemed legally blind.

Is this statement not illogical....with a rudimentary sense of vision seems to modify womb..
womb with rudimentary sense of vision...Is that correct ? Please clarify..

A), C) and E) are out, because of the incorrect usage of "as"

--> "As" is used either to show a cause-effect relationship or to show
the continuing nature of some activity

I just read more on this issue. "as" has three uses:

1) Duration --> while, during
2) Causation --> since, because
3) Comparison --> in the same way

I have the same question. This was never answered.

"from the darkness of the womb" seems to be a verb modifier describing how the baby emerged, and within it has its own "of the womb" modifier that modifies "darkness". The next prepositional phrase confuses me in general (nothing in mgmat or other guides i've read talks about a series of prepositional phrases and what they modify). It should be that the next prepositional phrase "with a rudimentary sense of vision" also modifies "how" the baby emerged, in which case, it would make more sense like:

A baby emerges from the darkness of the womb and with a rudimentary sense of vision that ...

making "from the darkness ..." and "with a rudimentary" parallel.

this below modification also seems to make perfect sense. How come in this case the "with womb water" just naturally modifies the touching noun "womb" instead of modifying the verb earlier.

A baby emerges from the darkness of the womb with womb water

are these prepositional phrases just something we use judgement on?
