Triangles ABC and ADE are similar triangles. If two triangles are similar, then their sides are in the same ratio.
So, AB : BC = AD : DE
AD = AB + BD = AB + 12
So, AB : 2 = (AB + 12) : 3
3AB = 2AB + 24
AB = 24

The correct answer is E.
