Thank you Farrat for the reply. I like you attitude toward this exam. I am also determined to take pass this exam. I am aiming at 700, but I am fine with 600 or 650. I am aiming high so I can study hard. the thing is when I see my friends are in grad school, I got jealous. I will put my heart in this exam. I will keep posting in this great forum and stay motivated.

best luck to all.
:)

I am determined this time to score much better. The school I am applying for does not require over 600. I am planning to take the exam again in February. I received advise from one of the members to get a high school math book and start from the basics, since the concepts have to come to us as a second nature. My plan is to study math concepts during 3 weeks and then since I need discipline, I will be taking an online course to keep me in a good pace. I think the reason why I had such horrible scores is because I underestimated the exam. I have a GPA of 3.85 and I usually do well in regular college exams. My first time, I did not pick up a book. The second time I studied for 3 months, but during the test I felt I did not have enough comprehension on each topic and this is why I was not able to be up to speed. I am definitely an snail. Besides, If I am not giving up, why would anyone? I am at the bottom. Most people seem to be ungrateful about a 650 score, when I have not even reached a 400! We need to conquer this sucker! I won't let the exam determined what I want to do with my life. Just keep posting and we'll encourage each other.
I appeared for GMAT today , I got really crashed. I am so mad at myself and I don't know what to do. Any helps or suggestions would be really appreciated .
Guys i scored 300 which is considered to be an scary socre against the others scored that i have seen it in the exam day .
Anyway, i would be highly appreciated if someone could let me know what are the verbal books that i should focus on .. i have heard that MGMAT books are good .
Any help from anyone guys??? specially from the verbal side ( My English is my second language , Not an native Speaker ) .
Thank you in advance .

Hussein,

Sorry to hear that you scored 300. However, the good news is that you have a lot of room for improvement! My best advice to you would be to start from scratch and build onto what you are going to learn. I took the GMAT a couple a years ago with no preparation at all, I thought this test would be a piece of cake... and I bombed it real bad! Let's say I got a score that was slightly above your 300, but not by much!

How about you take some English and Math classes to start building your foundation? Once you are solid enough with the basic concepts, you should have a loot at the MGMAT books. However, if you do not have the base required to attack these books, it will be a big waste of time.

After I scored low on the first time, I realized that I had to do something to improve.... and as a result, I married an English woman!!! :) Seriously, I did meet an English woman and started watching TV and movies in English and slowly immersing myself in a culture different from mine. The best advice I can give you is to have fun and it will start getting easier.

300 is not the end of the world, it's just a wake-up call! I got my wake-up call with a score in the mid 300 and in the past two year, I have improved by almost another 300 points. It took me a long time to build that foundation, but considering I have a stressing job, 2 babies at home, moved into a new house, got married, etc... It's not that bad at all and it's just a matter of how serious you want it!

Cheers my friend!

Thank you farrat for the kind reply. i do really appreciate your reply.
actually my previous gmat study was based on the Kaplan online couses and didnt finished yet and i did two diagnostic test which was on GMATprep software.
I need definitly to change my strategies of studying which will be :

I ordered the following books :
1) the Four Math Manhattan books .
2) Manhattan SC
3) Powerscore CR Bibble.
4)OG Verbal and Quant for practicing as well as i have the 11 eddition ( yellow book )

from your point of view, are all the above mentioned books are sufficient to achieve a good score. do i still need to order some math and veravl foundation books or Manhattan books are sufficent to cover the foundation as well as i heard from others peoples ??

Cheers,

Cheers,
Try these books and if you do not see any improvement, you might want to go with math books from high schools.

Cheers.

I replied this in another forum. But I am copying it because I wanted to let you know what I have been thinking and doing.

I was just thinking about how the GMAT challenges us and generates in us introspection. I thought that I was going to be able to acquire an MBA without much effort. I have a good GPA, my current employer likes the way I work, I have great references from professors in the Accounting and Finance fields.... and then... there is the GMAT! (block) Quite funny and Ironic!

Well, I just started from 0's again. I just purchased a multimedia high school math program. I can't just sit down for hours and solve math problems or read boring articles to prepare for it. So, I am changing the way I approach some of the topics for this exam. I think interactive media will work for me! at least for the math section. The program I got includes:

Math Review: Factors & Factoring, Infinite Possibilities, Radical Operations, Absolute Value, Integers & Order of Operations, Number Lines and Relationships, Multiplication & Division of Signed Numbers, Fractions & Fraction Forms, Reducing & Changing Fractions, Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying & Dividing Fractions, Decimals, Percents, Ratios, Proportions.

Algebra 1 & Statistics: Order of Operations, Rules of Exponents, Scientific Notation, Binomials & Polynomials, 1st & 2nd Degree Equations, Distance, Time, Rate of Work, Inequalities & Factoring, Graphs and Coordinate Systems, Slope of a Line, Radical & Linear Equations, Systems of Equations, Quadratic Formula, Functions, Venn Diagrams, Statistics, Probability.

Algebra II: Factors & Radicals, Fractions & Inequalities, Formulas and Functions, Equations with Absolute Values, Rate, Distance, Velocity & Time, The 5-Step Method, Word Problems with Quadratics, Word Problems with 2 Unknowns, Break-Even Analysis, Graphs, Quadratic Equations, Logarithms, Systems of Equations.

Geometry: Deductive & Indirect Reasoning, Conditional Statements & Variants, Venn Diagrams, Points, Lines, Planes, Space, Solids, Line Segments, Distance, Midpoints, Rays, Angles, Degree Measure, Angle Relationships, Intersecting Lines, Parallels & Transversals, Triangles, Polygons & Circles, Coordinate Geometry, Similarities & Ratios, Transformations.

I have been getting advise from a lot of people. We need to have very solid fundamentals. And I rushed in my first two attempts! I also think I am an slow learner, so I'll tackle the fundamentals first and then I will go through the Original Guides, exercise by exercise, until I get the concept right. This time I will take the exam when I think I am ready.

Btw, English is my second language too!
