CR - The American Revolution

by SubratGmat2011 » Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:50 pm
The American Revolution arose partly in response to British general search warrants, which gave arbitrary and
intrusive powers to government officers. Thus, the founders created the Fourth Amendment to protect against
unreasonable and warrant-less intrusions of privacy by a powerful and partisan federal government. During the
20th century, countless dictators have used arbitrary and intrusive surveillance to monitor and suppress dissidents.
Any democracy that does not enforce equally extensive protections will systematically suppress dissent. Which of
the following, if true, best weakens the argument?
"¢ The United Kingdom's parliamentary system does not have such extensive protections but has never systematically
suppressed dissent.
"¢ Many dictators have been very beneficial and constructive leaders for their countries.
"¢ Many democracies have haphazardly used surveillance to monitor dissidents and suppress dissent during times of
war.
"¢ Some dictators have been supported by the United States.
"¢ At least some countries in the former Soviet Union now have democratic elections but still suppress dissent.

IMO: A

Because:

1) The United Kingdom's parliamentary system does not have such extensive protections but has never systematically
suppressed dissent. Wekaens the statement Any democracy that does not enforce equally extensive protections will systematically suppress dissent

2) Many dictators have been very beneficial and constructive leaders for their countries. Does not make any comments from statement countless dictators have used arbitrary and intrusive surveillance to monitor and suppress dissidents

3) Many democracies have haphazardly used surveillance to monitor dissidents and suppress dissent during times of
war. Does not make any strong comment to weaken the argument

4) Some dictators have been supported by the United States. out of scope

5) At least some countries in the former Soviet Union now have democratic elections but still suppress dissent. Does not mean forcefully or systematically
Thanks and regards,

i will choose A for this CR.. its so difficulto understand it.
i chose A because the conclusion said ANY democracy country that doesnt enforce protection WILL supress dissent
and A states UK doesnt enforce protection and UK also suppressed dissent.
what is the answer?
