Columnist: George Orwell's book 1984 has exercised much influence on a great number of this newspaper's readers. One thousand readers were surveyed and asked to name the one book that had the most influence on their lives. The book chosen most often was the Bible; 1984 was second.

The answer to which one of the following questions would most help in evaluating the columnist's argument?

A. How many books had each person surveyed read?
B. How many people chose books other than 1984
C. How many people read the columnist's newspaper?
D. How many books by George Orwell other than 1984 were chosen?
E. How many of those surveyed had actually read the books they chose?

OA is b
i think option A is correct but found the correct answer to be B, can anyone assist with a comprehensive explanation. Thank you

Option A - INCORRECT
How many books had each person surveyed read? looking at the statistics of people who read George Orwell's book 1984 to be second place in the record, this means that over 80% of people surveyed would have read nothing less than 10 books and found the book more intriguing that the rest.

Option B - CORRECT.
How many people choose book other than 1984? The statistics of people who read book other than 1984 would have been higher than does who read 1984 alone, that is why there is an increase in the attestation of success of the book.

Option C - INCORRECT.
How many people read the columnist news paper? Many people might not read the columnist newspaper but would have read the book 1984 by George Orwell.

Option D - INCORRECT.
It is presumed that most people would have chosen 1984 over other books produced by George Orwell, that is why its on the top list.

Option E - INCORRECT.
Since its a survey, then it is assumed that those interviewed would be people who read books and would have read 1984 by George Orwell.
