combining 1 and 2,

x>0 and y<0

x=2,y=-1

3/1=3

x-y/x+y>1

x=0.1,y=-0.2

0.3/-0.1=-3

I agree it's C. Without knowing more about x and y, you can't tell whether x + y is larger or x - y is.
