It is an oversimplified view of cattle raising to say that all one has to do with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves, corral them, and to drive them to market when the time is ripe.
(A) all one has to do with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves, corral them, and to
(B) all one has to do with cattle is to leave them alone to feed themselves, to corral them, and
(C) all one has to do with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves and then corral them and
(D) the only thing that has to be done with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves, corral them, and
(E) the only thing that has to be done with cattle is to leave them alone while they feed themselves, to corral them, and

When we say "the only thing that has to be done" then we mean only one action, while here we are talking about series of actions.
For example, to make her happy the only thing you need to do is get her out for dinner.
Hence, D and E ruled out.
Among A, B and C, C is the only option that maintains the parallelism.

I believe the issue with A and B is:
A) leave them, ... corral them, and TO drive them
--> to breaks //ism
B) to leave them, to corral them, and drive them
--> missing to
Agreed that C is awkward in that original sentence breaks the 3 actions without distinguishing order (or orders them in the order they appear feed, corral, then drive). In C we say there are 3 actions and the first is clearly first but the latter 2 are either done simultaneously or order does not matter.
"...all one has to do is leave them ...and then corral them and drive them"
leaving them is clearly first and then corralling and driving them is second. It distinguishes order when original sentence did not... I was guided away from C at first due to this - however the first 2 are clearly violating //ism.
Good question

please elaborate how does c maintains the parallelism, i think B maintains the parallelism..karmayogi wrote:When we say "the only thing that has to be done" then we mean only one action, while here we are talking about series of actions.

Check the bold part. 'to' is missing in the end.

OP- Kindly underline sentences, it is difficult to read statements when not underlined.[email protected] wrote:It is an oversimplified view of cattle raising to say that all one has to do with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves, corral them, and to drive them to market when the time is ripe.
