Casino Royal

by shashank.ism » Sat Feb 06, 2010 8:55 am
Three men are gambling in Casino Royal. They start with sums of money in the ratio 7 : 6 : 5 and finish with sums of money in the ratio 6 : 5 : 4, in the same order as before. One of them won $ 12. How many dollars did he start with ? [The three men gambled amongst each other, only]

a) $1080
b) $420
c) $210
d) $108

IMO B

the total money at start=the total money at end=x
at start
7:6:5
1st per have=7x/18

2nd=x/3
3rd=5x/18

at end
1st=6x/15
2nd=5x/15=x/3
3rd=4x/15

diff of
1st=x/90
2nd=0
3rd=-ve
hence only the 1st one wins
hence
x/90=12--->x=1080---->1st one has 420

Let me call them A B C they had x money in total
A had (7/18)x; B had (1/3)x and C had (5/18)x at the start
in the end
A has (6/15)x B has (1/3)x and C has (4/15)x at the start

A gained (6/15)x -(7/18)x
= x (1/90)
x/90 =12
x = 12*90
he started with (7/18)*(12*90)

60*7 = 420
IMO, B

I think it was option - B

I wondered if anyone could recommend a casino hire company, we want a blackjack and roulette table at our wedding for after the meal and before the band start so that there is something to fill in the time in between as I know quite often there is a bit of lull after the wedding breakfast? I've got some quotes already but obviously a recommendation from someone would be much better!!
