Hi,
I am software professional with 4 yrs of experience. I have recently switched company 4 months back. Can i get my letter of recommendation from my previous company or is there any mandate to get it from the current one only as its been only 4 months in this company..please advise.

Nikkigpt,

Thanks for your note. As a general rule, letters of recommendation should come from your current and/or former direct supervisors because they are in charge of assessing your work performance. In your case, since you haven't worked with your current supervisor for very long, it is fine to ask only former supervisors for recommendation letters. You will just need to include a short note in your application explaining that you did not select your current supervisor because you have only been working with him/her for a short time.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss your recommender issue further.

Sincerely,
