Business School Rankings

by MBACrystalBall » Wed Jan 16, 2013 8:04 am
We had no intentions of creating another bschool ranking. There are enough of them around. But when we started gathering and analyzing data, we found surprising results & some interesting insights. So we decided to package it in the familiar rankings format. Here's the full list along with the methodology.

Top-50 Most Popular Business Schools in the World -->
Business School Rankings.

Any ranking can end up as just another bunch of names and numbers, IF it cannot provide additional insights. And we have plenty in there. Though we have to admit that these might be more relevant for bschools than for MBA applicants. Here's a summary of what we found.

Insight 1 - Brand power doesn't automatically translate into internet dominance

Insight 2 - No single bschool has really cracked the internet code

Insight 3 - Bschools have plenty to learn from each other

Insight 4 - American business schools do it better

Insight 5 - B-Schools need to focus more on their online strategies

Insight 6 - An aggressive online marketing strategy alone won't help

Read the details of what these insights really mean --> B-School Rankings 2013 - Insights

Facebook Rank, Twitter Rank is determined by how active/responsive is B School on these sites.
B School page rank is determined by how attractive is the B Schools to Asians as they form the largest pool, when you will sort by rank you will begin to see the trend. It is same as Amitabh Bacchan is the most popular actor and Sachin the most popular sportsman of the world :).

Partially correct, Abhi. The level of activity is one of the parameters we've considered, but in conjuction with others.

Correct again, Abhi bhai. If we pitch Tom Cruise against Amitabh Bachchan, and we assign equal weights for someone in the UK, USA or India, then purely on the basis of numbers, Bachchan sahab could be the most popular one. I wouldn't be surprised if such an online poll already exists.

Interestingly, when the overall score (not just twitter, fb etc) for our ranking is concerned, top Asian schools like ISB don't figure in the top 20. So the story goes beyond just the applicant pool size and the location of the bschool.

Considering that you've already given this some thought, if you don't mind I have a quick question for you.

I believe you've crossed the GMAT hurdle (with that little adventure with the pen!). Based on your bschool research (and ignoring this ranking for now), if you had to list 4-5 bschools that are doing a better job than the others in the online space, what would those be?

Just trying to get new perspectives on whether our statistical output is in sync with reality.
