Canadian scientists

Canadian scientists have calculated that one human being should be struck every nine years by a meteorite, while each year sixteen buildings can be expected to sustain damage from such objects.

(A) one human being should be struck every nine years by a meteorite

(B) a human being should be struck by a meteorite once in every nine years

(C) a meteorite will strike one human being once in every nine years

(D) every nine years a human being will be struck by a meteorite

(E) every nine years a human being should be struck by a meteorite

OA D

[spoiler]Can I tackle this question as a parallelism question. It is in following way.

I can easily eliminate A, B and C based on usage of 'should be'. However, between D and E, I changed the question as follows.

Canadian scientists have calculated that each year sixteen buildings can be expected to sustain and every nine years a human being will be struck Is this approach correct?

I'm not respected, but I am wondering how you eliminated choice 'D' on the basis of "should be".

My approach was slightly different.

The meaning of "...a human being should be struck..." is not correct. Should humans be struck or will they be struck? These are two different questions.

I eliminated all answers with "...Should be" (eliminate ABE)

C and D were tricky because they are inverted. I chose to keep the answer in parallel with 2nd half of the sentence. Therefore, chose answer D.

Eliminate A, B, & E because of use of the word should.

D is concise, while C is either using redundant words or changes the meaning by indicating that a specific human will be struck once every nine years.
