This is obviously incorrect, because of "double possessive":
...Elvis Presley and Jerry Garcia, whose music was significantly different from THAT (music) of HIS own (music).
So, this sentence seems to be saying that "music" has "music".
So, it can be:
...Elvis Presley and Jerry Garcia, whose music was significantly different from of HIS own
Or we can say:
...Elvis Presley and Jerry Garcia, whose music was significantly different from THAT of the artist.
