Bleached, enriched flour, almost like sugar's nutritional value, and much more likely to appear in foods labeled "sugar-free."

A) Bleached, enriched flour, almost like sugar's nutritional value, and much more likely to appear in foods labeled "sugar-free."
B) Bleached, enriched flour is almost more devoid of nutritional value than sugar, and much more than likely to appear in foods labeled "sugar-free."
C) Bleached, enriched flour's nutritional value is nearly as low as that of sugar, and this type of flour is much more likely to appear in foods labeled "sugar-free."
D) Bleached, enriched flour is almost as equivalently low in nutritional value as sugar, and much more likely than appearing in foods labeled "sugar-free."
E) Sugar's nutritional value is even lower than that of bleached, enriched flour, and much more likely to appear in foods labeled "sugar-free."

[spoiler]IMO A/B/D are all FRAGMENTS

IMO C is close but IS INCORRECT AS "Bleached, enriched flour's nutritional value is nearly as low as that of sugar, and this type of flour IS/ARE much more likely to appear in foods labeled "sugar-free."

IMO E [/spoiler]Pls share your views.

"This type of flour" is singular, so using "is" in C is correct.

E has two problems. First, we're missing a verb after ",and". Second, it's saying that sugar is much more likely to appear in foods labeled sugar-free, which doesn't make much sense.

Bleached, .., and this type of flour is ... (I was thinking BLEACHED AND THIS TYPE of flour MAKE THE SUBJECT A COMPOUND SUBJECT and therefore use of ARE appropriate. Pls suggest why it is not so?)

I feel verb for 2nd part is available and meaning is also very clear that "Sugar's nutritional value is appearing in foods" - pls correct me.

"Bleached, enriched flour" is the subject of the first clause. "This type of flour" (the bleached, enriched flour) is the subject of the second clause.

For E, your addition in bold makes it better by adding a verb ("is") to the second clause. We can't use the verb from the first clause as an "implied" verb in the second; the verb actually has to be there.

The meaning problem still exists. Why would sugar's nutritional value appear in sugar-free foods? The original sentence is trying to say that bleached, enriched flour is more likely to appear in sugar-free foods.

In C, What does "this type of flour" refers to... flour appears no where in sentence and non-possessive pronoun cannot refer to a possessive noun
e.g. John's wallet fell when he was coming out of store ... INCORRECT

According to E, Sugar's nutritional value is more likely to appear in foods ????!!!! Bad isn't it.
