what is bothering me is, how can we use two ands while representing the same list.

I would give you an analogy to understand . Consider it as a nested loop .

Some bat caves, like honeybee caves, have residents that take on different duties such as defending the entrance, acting as sentinels and sounding a warning at the approach of danger, and scouting outside the cave for new food and roosting sites.
