Bank of England

by Uva@90 » Sun Apr 05, 2015 5:33 am
Hi All,

Could you please help me with the below question,

Noting that the Bank of England had increased a crucial short-term interest rate again last week, industry watchers said that they expected sales of luxury products to decline soon because a rise in interest rates make buying on credit more expensive.

A) a rise in interest rates make buying on credit more expensive
B) rising interest rates makes it more expensive to buy them on credit
C) rising interest rates make buying on credit more expensive
D) a rise in interest rates make it more expensive to buy on credit
E) a rise in interest rates makes it more expensive for them to be bought on credit

Source: Crack the verbal

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Uva.

It should be C

A) a rise in interest rates make buying on credit more expensive - "rise" is the subject, so verb should be "makes"
B) rising interest rates makes it more expensive to buy them on credit - "rates" is the subject, so verb should be "make"
C) rising interest rates make buying on credit more expensive
D) a rise in interest rates make it more expensive to buy on credit - "rise" is the subject, so verb should be "makes"
E) a rise in interest rates makes it more expensive for them to be bought on credit - "them" does not seem to be referring to anything.
