This Sc violates the tense rule????send??

IRS provision 354-B mandates that an S corporation with assets of greater than $200,000 send W-2 forms to their full- and part-time employees on or before January 31.

1) same
2) an S corporation with assets of greater than $200,000 send W-2 forms to their full- and part-time employees

3) that an S corporation with assets of greater than $200,000 send W-2 forms to its full- and part-time employees

4) an S corporation with assets of greater than $200,000 to send W-2 forms to their full- and part-time employees

5) an S corporation with assets of greater than $200,000 send W-2 forms to its full- and part-time employees


I know here we would choose mandates that . This leaves us with ption 1 and 4. however since corporation is singular here , shoun't we use 'sends' instead of 'send'???

The sentence is in subjunctive mood and hence it should use infinitive form SEND

please refer manhattun sc for explanations on subjunctive mood.
here r few examples of subjunctive mood from man sc.

1)it is urgent that she sign the permission slip.
2)my advice is that he simple love her for who she is.

in the above two examples, using signs & loves (singular verbs) would be incorrect.

hence IMO C.

Hey... According to me the answer is option-4...Anyone with a definite authority on SC, please advice on the correct answer...

1. The introductory part is a clause and hence must be introduced by "That"

2. Also, It is subjunctive mood. Hence mandates +that+ infinitive form of the verb with "To"


Inshort, 4 cannot be the answer in any case.

In 4, Plural pronoun "their" can not refer to "Corporation"

we need a singular pronoun "its"

Thanks... I know i am asking a silly question, but i require conceptual clarity...

As per the Manhattan SC Book, subjunctive mood is used to express 'hopes, proposals, desires, and requests'...

Why do you say that it is a subjunctive mood... ??

What is wrong with E.

an S corporation with assets of greater than $200,000 send W-2 forms to its full- and part-time employees

- it uses send and its. Can we not use requires without that?

IMO it's C or E

is "mandate that" an idiom?

A) "Their" modifies corporation - wrong
B) "Their" modifies corporation - wrong
D) "Their" modifies corporation - wrong

The subjunctive is also used with some demands/orders. "He demanded that they send him three pizzas."

heard that mandates that +S+Vinfinitive is always used in Gmat so choose C

C it is because of command subjunctive and subject-Verb agreement problem(its,their)with other options
