One year MBA in India

Though we've written extensively about one year MBA programs in India, it's been more of individual success stories of folks who've got into these colleges. We also published one on the best one year MBA in USA.

However, we didn't have a single motherhood post on the one year MBA in India, collating all the marquee names to consider. So, if you've just joined the party and wondering if a one year MBA in India will help you, read on.

Sir,

I am so confused regarding my career options that i cant decide what to do? I am very keen to go into management stream besides, being a engineering student. I dont want to continue in the field i am in.
Lets start with my Profile
GPA: around 2
GMAT 580 (Q49 V20) planning to give again.(was not knowing applications can be done without GMAT)
Work Exp: no work exp. But i have worked for my home business in my backlog year.
now in final year of my BE completing in JuLY 2015

I am mainly trying to get in management field for shaping my thoughts into some practical happening. I am really confused to go for MIM or MS or MBA. Want to work atleast for 5 years in foreign country to recover and earn a good amount of money.
Doubts:
1. MBA: needs work exp? Freshers excepted?
2. admission MIM in top 10 university possible with GPA i have? I will definitely improve my GMAT. when should I take GMAT in order to get admission in Fall 2015?
3. Is MS in any management subjects a good option?
4. Which country should i opt for considering the post study job salary and opportunities?

Can you please help me out with the quires i have? I would like to subscribe to your package if u have one for my profile with good offerings.

Thanking You. Yours Faithfully.

Jumping straight to your questions Mrunal,
  1. Yes, most good MBA programs require work experience.
  2. The GPA seems pretty low; plus you've mentioned a backlog year too. With that, the top schools are likely to be a pretty tough bet. Most of the 2015 deadlines are already gone by now so you should have been already done with the GMAT ideally
  3. Depends on what you want to do. But for you, MBA isnt really an option. So MiM/MS will be good to explore
  4. Again depends on WHY you want to go out in the first place. If you are just starry eyed about 'phoren', I dont think we can really provide you objective information. Not the right way to approach your career priorities. Think some more

Hi,

A couple of questions:

1. I have been looking out for B-schools across the world ranging from the US, Canada, Switzerland, Netherlands, Spain, the UK, France, Singapore, Australia, etc. I would like to know which countries are Visa friendly for the Indian students and also allow them to work there for quite some time after the course finishes. I have heard countries like the UK aren't very Visa friendly. Can someone please comment on this.

2. I am also looking out to apply to some schools which start their term in January. I would like to know what are the pros and cons with this intake in terms of the courses and the placements, etc.

I tried looking out for answers in the forums but couldn't find any related posts.

Thanks.

Debjeet,

Jumping straight to your queries:
  1. The visa norms are pretty fickle and can even vary from year to year. At a very high level though, Canada, followed by the US may be better off than many European countries. Suffice it to say that almost all countries have some or the other complication in general; so its never a cakewalk. But I'd like to qualify that we aren't really the experts on VISA related matters.
  2. The Jan intakes usually offer a shorter duration course, in some cases, this may mean no internship. This is usually better for those not seeking a career change and not targeting off-beat industries/roles. The seats tend to be limited and it becomes tougher for international students. Not as preferred a route as the fall intake.
Hope this helps

Hi Sameer - got somewhat similar Visa related question, like debjeet.

It's regarding UK. Considering the current Visa restrictions, should internationals be refrain from applying to UK b-schools such as LBS,Said,Judge etc ? What will you recommend as a Judge-alum ?

Look forward to know your thoughts!

Dear Reeta,

The information here is pretty sketchy to suggest the kind of programs. At a high level though, the choice should depend on what you want to do after the MBA and not only what you've done before it. Even if most schools do not have say a specialized course in Infrastructure/Civil, it doesn't mean people do not get hired from those schools into the infra sector. I would recommend looking at it more holistically in terms of your goals and whether a school is a good fit for it.

Reeta,

The only caution I would have is to ensure that you are not aiming too low. Even if a school is providing a specialized course, the brand value could matter more. So choose wisely
