Oh sure, there's nothing wrong with is expected to provide. The problem is its coupling with production.

1. We can say - The windmill is expected to provide power to 5 villages. This sentence should be okay.

2. Can we say Production in a windmill is expected to provide power to 5 villages. Not so sure about that. Nothing wrong grammatically, but i'm not comfortable with the semantics. I'd rather prefer the earlier form of construction. (Stated above)

Ahhhh, I see what you mean. Yes, it is unusual, because the production is not providing the power -- the production IS the power.

this is a very confusing question but as per all the posts above i too feel that D is the only choice we are left with seems we have to check out grockit's explanation for it
