As cliched as it may get: Indian-Male-Engineer

Indian. Male. Engineer. Unfortunately, belonging to the biggest pool of applicants to top 20 B Schools.
Here is my profile. I'd be glad to know what the experts think about it.
Indian/Male/26/4 yrs Work-Ex

Acads:
  • 690 (Q49, V33) - Was consistently scoring a 740 but poor test centre management led to a dip of straight 50 points. The ouch factor here is that my AWA is 4.0. ï‹ This was my second attempt, though the first one was way back in 2007.

67% marks from a Top 15 Engineering College in India
Professional:
  • I am working as a Supply Chain Consultant for a German Supply Chain Consulting firm for the past 4 years (till date). I have worked with 8 clients across 5 industries in two largest countries in the world on projects involving supply chain strategy to network reconfiguration to organization restructuring and facility design etc. P.S. - I am an expert as MS Excel! ïŠ

Past one and half years, I have been acting as the representative for my company's new office, that we (my boss and I) established last year, in the new center of the world - Shanghai, China. "18 months of overseas experience and counting"

My work involves main stream consulting, right from data collection to number crunching to presentation to implementation of recommendations and everything that consulting requires.

Its a high-flying job, requiring me to travel at least 150 days a year for work.

I have also been involved in setting up the new office, handling law firm, accounting firms, and drafting HR policy manual, etc among other things at work.

Extra Curricular Activities:
  • Been responsible for the cultural guild at college and headed a discussion forum established to carefully discuss sensitive topics with the new comers.

I also co-founded a community radio station in college and was directly involved in getting approvals, sponsors, organizing teams, and liaison with government officials.

I also organized numerous blood donation camps, eye pledging camps and visits to leprosy homes during college days. My college honored me with an award for exemplary dedication towards social service at graduation.

I have also played a big role in organization of various educational and cultural events at school and college.
Short term goal: My short term goal is to learn how to build and lead an organization. I would like to work in Consulting for a couple of more years before I close in on industry jobs.

Long term goal: I want to return back to India and join the government as an expert - possibly leading to an entry into politics.

Let me know if you need any additional data to comment about my profile and I would be more than glad to tell you all!
Thank you!

So first things first: If you PRESENT yourself as an Indian/Tech/Male, then you will be SEEN as one.

What you need is a paradigm change. You are NOT an Indian Tech Male (even though you are ;), but we'll get to that later) but you are a international Supply Chain consultant with International experience, and you want to lead one of the world's LARGEST supply chain firms.

Once you have changed your story from the INSIDE, then you will BECOME someone else for the Adcom. that is the single most important thing to keep in mind.

Yet, at the same time be aware, in the back of your head, of the statistics. How many Indian applicants apply to School X, how many are accepted, what their background is. It will help you build a REAL application strategy.

Hope this helps, and inspires!
