Windmills

As sources of electrical power, windmills now account for only about 2,500 megawatts
nationwide, but production is almost expected to double by the end of the year, which
would provide enough electricity for 1.3 million households.
A. almost expected to double by the end of the year, which would provide
B. almost expected that it will double by the end of the year, thus providing
C. expected that it will almost double by the end of the year to provide
D. expected almost to double by the end of the year and thus to provide
E. expected almost to double by the end of the year, which would thus be providing

Pls provide reasoning for eliminating a choice. Tx.

Should be D in my opinion

A - but production is almost expected , is should be Production is expected ..... Also which followed by comma refers to immediate noun "year" , where as it should be referring to production.

B - but production is almost expected , is should be Production is expected , Also "it" does not have a clear referent (production or electrical power)

C - Wordy and unclear

D - Correct, infinitive "to provide" is also used in the correct sense

E - incorrect usage of Which and since the sentence is in present tense, it should use Will rather than Would.

IMO C

Position of almost is critical. It should modify double as it is doing in C

"almost" should modify "double" not "expected." also parallelism "to double" and "to provide"

Madhur...what does it refer to in the sentence...is it windmill or production....subject of the sentence is windmill

It should refer to production ideally .. but I am confused .. this can be case of ambiguous reference.

My ans is marked in bold
3-2 split eliminate option A and B almost expected wrong usage.
right Usage
Production is expected to double
Eliminate option C as 'it' used is dangling modifier.
Eliminate option E -which would thus be awkward usage

In Option D-Parallelism to double .. to provide
OA pls.

IMO D as well... to provide is parallel

also "production is expected almost" is the correct order of words

thus is the right connector as it is pointing to a consequence of doubling the production. The use of which does not communicate the meaning clearly.
