Are SAT and GMAT scores correlated? I'm hoping not because I only managed to score an 1120 on my SATs back in 1997. I'm hoping that I'm not doomed to repeat a low score b/c I know the importance of the GMATs when it comes to getting into MBA school

Do any of you have the experience of scoring low on the SAT but high on the GMAT? I did not prepare for the SAT much at all but I did purchase the OG to the GMAT, Manhattan Review SC and CR, Princeton Review verbal, and Kaplan math to study. Could people please post their SATs vs GMAT scores and give me any advice?

Given my low SAT score, should I even bother studying for the GMATs? Thanks!

I'm don't have any evidence that SAT and GMAT scores are correlated, but my instincts tell me that there is likely some loose correlation. That said, I think you are selling yourself short--1120 on the SATs is not a bad score, especially in 1997 (I believe this was before ETS started inflating the scores).

I believe that the GMAT is a test that anyone can beat with the proper preparation. I also wish to point out that the GMAT is just one of several factors that b-school admission folks consider in your application--a good or bad score won't guarantee anything.

Best of luck! Don't let one test get in the way of your dreams to go to business school!

Thanks a lot. Are those books that I mention worth studying? There are tons and tons of study material and I want to make sure I only get the best.

Yes I am stress out b/c of my bad SAT score. I keep thinking I'm stupid or something so my confidence took a hit. Any other advice you could give me would help on how to prepare. Thanks.

My experience

I am aiming for a 700+ on the GMAT and scored a 1210 on my SAT in 1999. A 1210 was not necessarily a bad score, but it certainly was not a highly competitative score. Also, I never really studied for my SAT.

I took the GMAT last week and scored a 650 but am taking it again in April and expect to score 700+. (I was scoring 700 on my practice tests).

For the record, I hate standardize tests because I do not believe they represent my ability to succeed. However, with the right amount of effort I believe you can score high on the GMAT regardless of thinking you do not do well on standardized tests.

Also, verbal was always my downfall, especially in the SAT. I find the verbal in the GMAT to be easier. The GMAT verbal, tests logic and reasoning skills as well as grammar.
