Subjunctive Verb Lessons Now OFFLINE

by rsadana1 » Mon Oct 05, 2009 2:42 pm
Hi Everyone,

I would like to thank everyone for their feedback and appreciation. We logged quite a few attempts on the lessons. The feedback has been extremely positive. We have also compiled the responses. Overall, the average score on the diagnostic was 40/100 while the average score on the end of concept quiz was 70/100. The end of concept quiz also demonstrated lower standard deviation (12 Vs 19). This is an excellent improvement given the fact that Subjunctive is an advanced concept. Overall, we found that 95% of individuals improved their percentile on this concept.

Great work!!

Thanks,

rsadana1

10+ questions

Great lesson again rsadana

You have explained a complex concept in a very simple manner. I got 25% in the diagnostic and was able to improve up to 65% after taking the lessons. A good set of 15 questions as well.

Can you tell me where does 65% put me w.r.t others who have attempted these quesitons

Keep such lessons coming.

Thanks

Re: Percentile!!

by rsadana1 » Wed Oct 07, 2009 8:50 pm
Thanks Mason,

Congratulations on the score improvement. We collect responses from a few hundred students (statistically significant sample) and then deduce the percentile based on your score on a particular topic.

As of now we have approximately 50 responses and are waiting for a few more before we run through the entire exercise. However, considering that Subjunctive is a difficult topic, I would put your percentile level between 65 and 80 percentile. However, this solely reflects you percentile in this topic and not the entire SC or the entire verbal section.

I hope that this helps. Good luck in your preparation.

Thanks rsadana

Its good to know an assessment of where I stand. A couple of questions; based on the data that you have gathered, is this score improvement normal. (25%-65% after the lesson).

Mason,

I would say that your score improvement currently is in the average to above average category. Please note that for an online lesson (and also for a book) the score improvement really depends on the following:

1. Your ability and background
2. The time spend.
3. Continuity: Whether the lesson is taken in one sitting or multiple and whether you do the exercises right away or after a break.

We have seem a positive correlation between the amount of time spent on the lesson and score improvement. People who have spent 15 mins of more on the lesson in one sitting generally have demonstrated better score improvement. As an example, we had an individual who spent 18 mins on the lesson and improved his score from 25% (diagnostic) to 95% (final exercise).

Hope this helps!!

Great quiz. Great explanation. It would be nice if you can upload SC practice tests as well...they can quite handy during the prep.

Thanks,

I am glad that this material is helping you out. :)

I also appreciate your recommendations. I will pay close attention to those for my future course design.

Just a reminder that this course will be online till the end of day Sunday Oct 11. On Monday, I will post lessons on use of verb tenses in conditional constructions (Advanced Concept)

would you bring it online?

by crackthetest » Thu Oct 15, 2009 7:18 pm
Hello,
Could you please bring the subjunctive lesson online for a few more days for those who missed it?
I'm hearing rave reviews of it and wondering if you can make this one time request possible.

Thanks! Keep up the great work.

Thanks crackthetest for your kind words.

Per your request, I will bring Subjunctive Verb online for 2 days only sometime next week. As you know we are facing some issues with our new course portal. We will sort those issues out over the weekend and then post the Conditional and Subjunctive Lessons.

Verification on one of the q's

by norizam » Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:55 pm
Hi
I took the quiz and got the question about "in US, the sport spectators prefer that they sit......" wrong. Even though the sentence is correct, if I apply the GMAT "rules", the elements in the sentence are not parallel, thus the reason for my marking it as "incorrect". Any comment?

A teeny suggestion...mix up the verbs that require subjunctive and the verbs that require infinitive to make the quiz more interesting
