Hi, this is not my best essay in 30 minutes. Please give any suggestions on how I can better organize my thoughts before writing. Thanks.
"People often complain that products are not made to last. They feel that making products that wear out fairly quickly wastes both natural resources. What they fail to see, however, is that such manufacturing practices keep costs down for the consumer and stimulate demand."
The use of cheaply made products generally is good for individuals and the economy since these products have been the crutch for low-income and middle-class families. Although there many products that seem wasteful based on their short shelf lives, many consumers tend to preserve or utilize them efficiently, increasing the shelf lives beyond their manufacturer's expectations. Some examples include Japanese cars and preserved food, which have been put to good uses.
Many consumers have purchased Japanese cars, such as Honda, which is made from cheaper elements of metal and consumes lower levels of gasoline. These vehicles have always been lower cost compared to higher quality ones from European countries, but the Honda has not only stimulated demand in the United States, but also saved American families plenty of their income on gas payments. These cars are produced with cheaper sheets of metal, but with an engine that is built to surpass the mileage of its competitor's engine. These Japanese cars are indeed durable as drivers use them for all intended purposes of saving money and so more people drive these types of cars.
Preserved and canned foods generally are not wasteful if consumers buy and store them in bulk for future uses. These products are good for rainy days and often the packaging is recyclable and environmentally friendly. Manufacturing enormous amounts of canned foods stimulate the wider economy as more people can afford these products.
In conclusion, even though some products require additional human and natural resources than do other products, canned foods and Japanese cars are just some examples that have been proven to exceed their shelf lives and stimulate consumer demand.
