Data Sufficiency question from GMAT Prep

by anks17 » Thu Nov 17, 2011 10:33 am
Of the students who eat in a certain cafeteria, each student either likes or dislikes Lime Beans and each student either likes or dislikes Brussel Sprouts. Of these students, 2/3 dislike Lime Beans and of those who dislike Lime Beans , 3/5 also dislike Brussel Sprouts. How many of the students like Brussel Sprouts but dislike Lime Beans ?

1. 120 Students eat in cafeteria
2. 40 students like Lime Beans

a) 1 alone is sufficient.
b) 2 alone is sufficient.
c) 1 and 2 together are sufficient.
d) Either statement is sufficient.
e) None of the statements are sufficient.

Expert, please explain with reasons and details. Not able to make a correct Table or Venn diagram.

Let
LB - like Lime beans
DLB - dislike Lime Beans
BS - like Brussel Sprouts
DBS - dislike Brussel Sprouts
Total - x

Sorry, had to put * to maintain the structure of the table

****************LB************DLB***********Total
BS**************************** ?
DBS***************************0.4x
Total*************************0.66x**********x

So ? = .66x - .4x = .26x
(1) gives the value of x so sufficient
(2) gives the value of .66x so sufficient
Hence D
