am i eligible to apply for a top mba program

Hello Ms.Lisa Anderson,Ms.Stacy Blackman

I am a person(27 in 2009) from India who is looking forward to know that whether I am eligible to apply for top 15 mba programs in us.
My profile, in short, looks like this

Work experience—

Since 2004 I am teaching mathematics to high school students
Honestly speaking, I started doing this initially to earn living but slowly found it a much better option than anything I could have and also started enjoying this as profession. Especially i get to have much lessons for interpersonal learning skills.
BUT I donn teach at a great high school. I give private tuitions 2 students who want that and taking private tuition is a very very common phenomenon for school students here. Almost 99% do so.
I have achieved gud results with students. I have also taught student(s) who were not so well with numerical ability,am not sure that whether that was due to some medical reasons but I was able to successfully transform, not all of them, into a good mathematics student.

1. With this work experience, am I eligible to apply for good mba programs?
are thr any instances tht applicants with a similar profiles are admmiited to top bschools??

Academics-

Gmat 680 49q & 33v

2. I come from India, so is my gmat score too low? can good grades in college not cover up for this lower gmat score?actually my lowest practice score was 710 49q 38v and thus it’s a bad day score for me but I am not inclined 2 take gmat again coz I am afraid that I could end up with 680-710 and that might send negative vibes to college regarding places where I target to spend my energy!

MA Economics{from a university that is large but not best in country} 2005-2007
No gpa here marks are in percentages
Good{really above average, somewhere around top 3 percent of class} grades in both years
Especially excellent result in quantitative subject.

BA from same college in Economics Sociology And Political science ;2001 to 2004

Have also scored good results{over 96 percentile rank in 2 lakhs students on national level} in a national level aptitude test that resemble gmat in a sense but is much harder in quantitative aspect I reckon.

Extracurriculur-

Have played cricket for two years for a district levelclub
Pracise yoga with different very small community clubs

3. If I am eligible to apply, may you plz suggest me some bschools whr students with my sort of background are more{or even least} admitted than other.

4. which are the weaker areas in my application??

5. and to whom should I go for giving recommendation letters along with mba applications??i work completely on my own!?

6. I earn too less money,as compared 2 normal b school applicants, will this give some disadvantage in application process??
warm regards and peace from my heart and soul

Dear abcdef,

It is true that some schools will not look as favorably upon your work experience as others. However, you can control this to some degree by how you position what you do and how realistic your career goals are after business school. What your salary is will not have any influence over your admission decision, but you will be expected to have the money for the course of the program. In the US, in particular, you will have to show proof of the funds in order to be issued a visa to come into the US.

I would suggest looking at smaller programs outside the top 30 as your best options for admission. Schools in the top 15 are ultra competitive, so in my opinion, I think your efforts will have a higher return focusing on schools outside that group. Likewise, I think you will find many great schools that will be a good fit for you outside the top 30.

As for recommenders, you must have someone you can ask. A parent of one of your students or a former student. You need to have recommendations from people that can assess you as a professional. It will be important for you to explain why you have selected these folks in an optional essay as well.

Good luck,
Lisa
