a. a greater percentage than it was - it doesn't have a clear referent.
b. a greater percentage than - correct
c. a greater percentage than they have been - Usage of past perfect is incorrect here
d. which is greater than was so - Its the advertising costs...but which incorrectly refers to the expenses
e. which is greater than it has been - Its the advertising costs...but which incorrectly refers to the expenses

Hi psm12se,

This SC is based on Comparison Rules (which also require Parallelism rules). The first part of the original prompt mentionss "advertising costs" as a "percent" of a company's expenses, so the second part of the prompt has to present a matching/parallel idea.

Since the first part is a percent, the second part has to ALSO be a percent. In addition, the word MORE must be followed, at some point, by the word THAN.

The only answer that provides the correct comparison (another percent) is B. Each of the incorrect answers either doesn't mention a percent or includes a number of unnecessary words that creates an incorrect comparison.
