Not all employment selection mechanisms that have a "disparate effect," that is, that screens out a percentage of minorities or women disproportionate to their presence in the relevant labor market, are unlawful.

A.that is, that screens out a percentage of minorities or women disproportionate to

B.which means, that screens out a percentage of minorities or women disproportionate with

C.which means, that screen out a percentage of minorities or women disproportionate with

D.that is, that screen out a percentage of minorities or women disproportionate to

E.that is, that screens out a percentage of minorities or women disproportionate with


Can anybody explain what screen is referring?? i'm not able to know if must be singular or plural??

yes, at first it is not clear

ask yourself what in sentence can screen / select out...selection mechanims? makes senses...yes, so thats the subject...


whats the source ?

IMO,

that which falls in between the commas is describing the 'disparate effect'. Hence A and E would remain. I feel 'disproportionate with' is idiomatic. Hence would choose A.

IMO D

"disproportionate with" is unidiomatic. That leaves us with A & D.

"employment selection mechanisms" is plural, so we require a plural verb "screen" rather than "screens". Hence D

Figure out the subject of the second clause..?


the second that acts as a pronoun , as there is no other subject and it's singular, as it is not those ..
hence all choices with that screen is out (C,D)

disproportionate with / to - with is used with a another(/other?) no. it would be correct in case of..
a percentage disproportionate with the no of / the percentage of etc

here it is their presence in the relevant labor market, X screens out Y disproportionate to Z
hence B& E are out .. IMO A ..

Pls give out the OA as all my explanation goes for a toss..;) and the source to..

IMO, D.

The subject here is "selection mechanisms" not "disparate effect" so the "that" is referring to the "selection mechanisms" which is plural.

"Selection mechanisms ... screen out"


Therefore, we're looking for "screen" not "screens," which eliminates A, B, and E.

"Disproportionate to" is the correct idiom, so D would be my answer choice.
