A system-wide county school anti-smoking education program was instituted last year. The program was clearly a success. Last year, the incidence of students smoking on school premises decreased by over 70 percent.

Which of the following assumptions underlies the argument in the passage?

(A) Cigarettes are detrimental to one's health; once people understand this, they will quit smoking
(B) The doubling of the price of a pack of cigarettes last year was not the only cause of the student's altered smoking habits.
(C) The teachers chosen to lead the anti-smoking education program were the most effective teachers in the school system
(D) The number of cigarettes smoked each day by those students who continued to smoke last year did not greatly increase.
(E) School policy enforcers were less vigilant in seeking out smokers last year than they were in previous years

Option A - CORRECT.
This option is the most suitable option among other option stated to summarize the anti-smoking educational program instituted in the school. This statement ''cigarettes are detrimental to one's health; once people understand this, they will quit smoking''. This option in other word means smokers are liable to die young and no body wants to die so they have to quit. That is why 70% were able to realize this and they quit.

In Option B - INCORRECT.
The increase in price does not affect an addicted smoker, but this time the reduction of smokers was achieved due to the lecture they've been receiving on how smokers are liable to die young.

In Option C - INCORRECT.
This option is right but not an absolute reason why there is a high reduction in percentage of students who smokes.

In Option D - INCORRECT.
This is possible but that is not the reason why there is a decrease in percentage of students who smoke as stated in the speech.

In Option E - INCORRECT.
This statement is not true because it is obvious that the policy enforcers were more vigilant last year than in the previous years, looking at the percentage of students who quit smoking last year.
