E. The honeybee's stinger is heavily barbed and stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes
The literal meaning of the sentence --

The honeybee's stinger is heavily barbed and stays where it is inserted. This [ the whole act] causes severe damage to the bee resulting in its death. [ assuming fatal injury will eventually cause bee's death]

Only option E maintains this meaning.

Comma+with modifies the subject of the preceding clause. Using this theory, I am not able to come to E. But meaningwise E looks perfect.

Some expert please help.

Thanks.
