Let G = the number of general tickets.BTGmoderatorDC wrote:A museum sold 30 tickets on Saturday. Some of the tickets sold were $10 general exhibit tickets and the rest were $70 special exhibit tickets. How many general exhibit tickets did the museum sell on Saturday?
(1) The museum's total revenue from ticket sales on Saturday was greater than $1,570 and less than $1670.
(2) The museum sold more than 20, but fewer than 25, special exhibit ticket on Saturday.
Since a total of 30 tickets are sold, the number of special exhibit tickets = 30-G.
Since general tickets = $10 each and special exhibit tickets = $70 each, we get:
Total revenue = 10G + 70(30-G) = 10G + 2100 - 70G = 2100 - 60G.
Statement 1:
1570 < 2100 - 60G < 1670
-530 < -60G < -430
530 > 60G > 430
53 > 6G > 43
Since G must be an INTEGER, the only option is G=6, with the result that 6G = 6*8 = 48.
SUFFICIENT.
Statement 2:
If 21 of the 30 tickets sold are special exhibit tickets, then G = 30-21 = 9.
If 22 of the 30 tickets sold are special exhibit tickets, then G = 30-22 = 8.
Since G can be different values. INSUFFICIENT.
The correct answer is A.
