CR strategy for GMAT: Does LSAT CR help ?

by TOPGMAT » Fri Jul 08, 2011 2:15 am
Hi Experts,
I have seen many tough CR questions on many forums like btg are LSAT CR questions. I am beginning to
wonder whether I should read some good LSAT CR books. Do you guys suggest the same?
Where should we draw the line ?

Thanks,
TOPGMAT

I actually have the same question. Is studying the LSAT reasoning questions something that is recommended?

Hi David,
Thanks a lot for the info and links...
A hundred kudos to you for patience in spending time and posting the links!!!.

I found this book Aristotle 101 cr.
The owners say the questions are from LSat and they have filtered whatever is
relevant for GMAT. I hope they are true.

After I went through all of your posts, I concluded the following
1) LSAT is good and tougher but you need more time to sit and sort through.
2) As I am planning to give GMAT after about a month, I have so many other topics
to work on. So I am not considering going through LSAT books at present. I only
hope those aristotle book serve the LSAT question experience.

Thanks,
TopGMAT

TopGMAT -

Funny tag line!! Get rid of Data Sufficiency? I love Data Sufficiency!!

As to the source you mentioned -- I don't know if they have really pulled out the LSAT questions that apply to the GMAT. "Trust yourself" is what I say.

If you have done Official GMAT questions and looked at the examples I provided and no doubt you have done some other studying, you should have an idea of what a GMAT question is like and what is NOT similar to a GMAT question. If you are doing a question from the source you mentioned and it does not seem right to you - Don't Stress Out!!! Trust Yourself and move on to another question. You are only doing this as a supplement. You do not need to be able to do every LSAT or supposed LSAT question you see.

Have fun with it, trust yourself, make a game or challenge of it. The one thing I tell anyone who is looking to study the LSAT for the GMAT - Don't let this frustrate you! It is only for practice and enjoyment. It is not there to get you downed or stressed. You could miss LOTS of LSAT questions and still do well on the GMAT.

And remember - with your limited time, don't sacrifice GMAT materials in order to study the LSAT. If you have to choose between sources, do the Official Questions, then GMAT-specific, and only then LSAT. And the LSAT really is meant to be fun.

Hi David,
Yeah... its funny. I had put it a long time back.
I was making a lot of mistakes in DS then now I got the hold of it. :-)

Yes, Official guide and few other GMAT prep books are my priority and ,as you have advised, rest are all extras.

Thanks a lot again David.

I read somewhere in this forum . when you study lsat CR , ignore formal logic "if this-then that" and ignore paralel reasoning questions which is hard on lsat but easy and rare on gmat.
