A Bread & Butter Score - 720

by sourabh33 » Sat Jun 25, 2011 4:53 am
Hi Friends

I took the test today and scored a modest 720 (Q50, V 37). Although I am not very happy with the score (specially a V37), I don't want to do anymore of the crossing business - ABCDEs.

I am a 29 year old male from India, with around 6 years of experience post my engineering from CEPT Ahmedabad. Out of the 6 years, 4 were with the prominent fortune 500 companies as a business analyst, and subsequently as a project manager. Since last two year, I have been running a small consulting firm that provides services in the areas such as CDM, Green Buildings, Solid waste management, Infra projects, etc. I am also a certified LEED AP (BD+C) from US green building council. I have no fancy extra curricular antlers though.

For my admissions, I am targeting mainly the ISB program in Hyderabad. Please do let me know your opinion whether a 720 would be sufficient, or do I need to improve my score by further 10-20 points; I seriously think I can improve by another 20 points, if i get a good amount of free time from my consulting work.

In addition, let me know if any of you have any specific queries about the test day experience. I prepared intermittently during the last three months using the material as mostly used by everyone. One mistake I did was to not focus on my weak areas- SC & RC, and IMO that has robbed me of my cheese and jam score.

Finally, thank you all- specially instructors - for all the lovely interactions and scornful dissection of various topics.

Best Regards
Sourabh

What were your scores while you were practising mock tests(GMAT Prep,Manhattan's),just wanted to know if the level of questions were a little higher than questions we find in GMAT Prep/Manhattan's?

Hi Sunny

My Prep Test score are as below. In my opinion, the difference between the prep and the actual test scores is mainly because we accidentally come across few of the prep test questions or their adapted forms on the forums during our preparation. Otherwise, I found the actual test to be very similar to GMAT prep.

MGMAT 1 - 700
GPrep 1 - 730
MGMAT 2 - 700
MGMAT 3 - 700
MGMAT 4 - 730
MGMAT 5 - 770
GPrep 2 - 720
MGMAT 6 - 740

In addition, I tried one test from 800score (Between MGMAt 4 & 5) and scored a pathetic 630; that was quite demoralizing specially after reading reviews about people scoring on the higher side on 800 tests.
