Hi All,

I took the GMAT on Dec 21 and scored a 700. 48 Quant, 37 Verbal.

I always thought that my verbal was strong and I was scoring in the range of 44-47 in practice tests. On the D-Day, exhaustion set in during the verbal section. I thought I had done very bad on the quant section and this caused a drop in motivation.

Im planning to take the GMAT again. I think I need more practice on the RC and CR sections.

If it matters to new test takers, I never did any OG problems. I just took about 20 practice tests over a period of 4 weeks(4-5 hrs of study per day). I have a very stressful job plus I am the mother of an 18 month old. I wish I could study for another month before giving the test.

I think it is more important to study smarter v/s harder. All the best to all of you. I will join the journey in pursuit of a higher score!!

To be honest, 700 is a great score to me. If i were you, i would immediately start thinking about the next phase of admission i.e. application. I'm not here to confuse you. I'm just saying that GMAT is just one of the admission requirements. No university will ever reject a 700 score. They will only look beyond your GMAT score as long as you satisfy their minimum GMAT score criterion. This is just my opinion which i wanted to share with you.

Btw, congratulations for a wonderful score!

First of all I will congratulate both of you for scoring 700! It is certainly a good score.
The 700 score may put you in the pool of candidates to review for admission but people use GMAT to fill other deficiencies in thier application such as if you don't have 3.5 GPA or don't have great recemondation letters etc then your extra GMAT score can compensate that. This is the biggest driver for madness behind the 760 of 780. And other driver is scholarship and funding opportunities. The higher GMAT score (Here higher means something beyond 750) gives a good chance of not full but atleast partial fee funding etc

I too got a 700 on my first attempt. I have been given to understand that the GMAT is only the first hurdle. As soon as you've touched the mid 50% range of a school, stop worrying abt the score and concentrate on the rest of the application. Just visit the application forums and you'll see the 770s and 780s getting dinged from the number one choices. I believe that the essays and the GPA will make all the difference. The essays more than anything. And don't screw-up on the interviews.

Okay, I want to apologize if I created confusion regarding a 700. I think it is a good score and that it is enough for my application to be considered.

I was aiming for a higher score and want to take the GMAT again just for the sake of it (yeah, I don't have better things to do!). Some of us just set a higher standard without a valid reason.

@Simcard: I think your score is "enough". Let us not forget that GMAT is just one aspect of the application progress. All the best.

I took the test today, and I just wanted to share that I'm kind of relieved that I'm not the only one going "Wow I got a 700 (44Q 42V), and that's great, but not quite what I was aiming for." I'm playing the "do I retake or not" game, which the primary driver at this point for me is scholarship opportunities. Timing on the math got me so I'm kicking myself, while at the same time going "it's great, move on!" lol... tough decisions! Congrats on the great scores, and good luck if/when you retake! :-)

yeah when i got my 700 i was definitely relieved...so if i have a 3.73 GPA and a 700 on the gmat with amazing recs, could i possibly get a full scholarship? (i haven't finished my bachelors yet)
