I really neeed the help to understand them. Thanks

1-
The perimeter of a rectangular painting is 56 inches. If its area is 192 square inches, what is the length of each of the shorter sides?

A) 48
B) 32
C) 24
D) 16
E) 12



3-
Raj spent 1/2 of his vacation fund on airplane tickets,1/4 on hotels and 1/6 on meals. If he spent the remaining $200 on souvenirs, what was the total amount of his vacation fund?


A) 24000
B) 2400
C) 2000
D) 1600
E) 1200

Let me try to solve using PoE

The perimeter of a rectangular painting is 56 inches. If its area is 192 square inches, what is the length of each of the shorter sides?

A) 48
B) 32
C) 24
D) 16
E) 12

Perimeter of the painting = 2(Longer side + Shorter Side) = 56
(Longer side + Shorter Side) = 28
Shorter side is definitely less than 28/2(=14)
Answer choice E is the only such case. IMO E

Total amount of Raj's vacation fund = R
Expenditure on airplane tickets + hotels + meals = ((1/2)*R + (1/4)*R + (1/6)*R) = (11/12)*R
Expenditure on souvenirs = R - ((11/12)*R) = (1/12)*R = 200
i.e. R = 2400
