Please help..... GMAT score 610 Q47,V26 ..... :(

Had my GMAT exam today.... and scored a disappointing..........
610 : Q47,V26

My score in verbal made me cry. I was expecting 700+ but got totally stumped in Verbal Section.
The major problem I faced was the time constraint in verbal. Though I completed the quants sections 10 minutes before time, in verbal I marked more that 10 questions randomly.

I am not a native speaker of English so lack basics and reading and understanding each question takes more than 2 minutes.

Please help me to form a strategy for the verbal section. I am planning to give GMAT on next 25th , i.e., 25th June,2011.

Please let me know which books to consult and how to speed up.

simi take a verbal course if u wana see inprovement in month, dnt rely on self prep in such a short span,

go for knewton,gmat-pill,or whatever fits in ur budget,,,,explore 24 hours which will best suit u.

Since I am in a full-time job,I am planning for self prep in a month.

I have created my study plan for next month.
I am planning to read these books in this sequesnce only for 2-3 hours per day.

Feedback Requested.

1.Manhattan Sentence Correction Guide.
2.PowerScore Critical Reasoning Guide.
3.Manhattan Reading Comprehension Guide.
4.GMAT Official Guide 12th Edition.
5.GMAT Official Verbal Review 2nd Edition.

Hi,

Firstly, I would say that you do not loose heart based on this score. I am assuming that you have thoroughly evaluated your score and you are quite confident that this score will not help you in anyway. If it is so then good otherwise you must see if this score is sufficient as is. The quality of score will purely depend on your profile (work experience, aspirations etc).

Coming to giving the exam again. Have you already taken the date for the exam? If yes, then no worries but if you have not then you must re-think if you want to give it a try in such a hurry. Do you have a specific reason for attempting the exam within such a short span? You must understand that you will be on a back foot after this attempt and going to the next exam with such a mindset could damage your chances. I would not say it happens to everyone, but it happens to many.

Next, your preparation for the next attempt. It is quite obvious that you are stronger in Quant than in verbal. However, you still haven't score the very best in Quant that too when you finished your exam 10 mins early. Try to improve your quant sufficient enough to score the most you can in Quant. Coming to verbal, you definitely need to practice verbal more that you practice Quant. Have you given practice exams in the past? Which section in verbal did you falter most? Can you identify a pattern in your verbal performance? All this will help you identify the area you need to concentrate on. It is difficult to provide a generic guidance so you must do that homework first and then probably approach this forum with those specific details.

Finally, I was in your position 5 years back. I know it is disheartening to see such a score but it happens. It is more important for you to stay confident and approach the preparation with a positive frame of mind.

You have sufficient material for verbal I guess. In fact MGMAT guides are the best. Try reading The Economist, The Washington Post for having a better understanding of how GMAT english is. All the Best for your preparation. :)
