Got Bad VA Score, How to improve

by anuraagtewari » Wed Feb 23, 2011 9:03 pm
Hi,
I just gave my GMAT and did really bad. Although I got a 50 in Math but only 27 in VA . The total was 600. My preparation of the SC section was not up to the mark, yet I was getting a good feel of the grammar rules and was having a reasonable accuracy of 60 to 70 %. But on the exam day, the questions seemed to be far away in concepts from any logic that I knew or it may be a possibility that under stress I freaked out. Now I have decided to drop a year and reappear for GMAT in July.
I have dropped this year to get to a really good B School. I need a 740 plus GMAT score some body plz help.

Hi there,

If you do a search here on BTG, you'll find many posts with advice on improving Verbal. Here's a recent post with some links that might help you:

Truthfully, to do well on the GMAT (650+), you'll really need to achieve 90-95% accuracy on your practice questions. The only way to do that is a two-fold process: learn the tested content, and adopt strong strategies. Once you've mastered the content, you can work on your pacing. It can be a long process, so I recommend you set up a weekly study schedule and stick to it. You'll need to find a balance between GMAT studying and the rest of your life - don't burn yourself out :)

You may want to start by re-evaluating your study tools. Using a variety of materials: OG, MGMAT, Powerpreps, Grockit, BTG articles, English grammar guides, etc. can really help.

Check out the "Self-Study" section on BTG for the best book recommendations, and of course keep reading the "I Just Beat the GMAT" section. You'll start to see that students who earn 750+ scores put in an incredible amount of work, and use the same materials.

Feel free to use these boards for any more specific questions. Good luck to you!
