At major hollywood studios a much greater proportion of the population is employed than is employed by independent movie production companies

What exactly is wrong with D as far as the grammatical structure / Meaning issues are concerned. If the comparison is wrong then why is it wrong .

D is wrong because the first part of the sentence conveys that studios employ but the second part of the sentence talks about employment of, the same cause unparallelism between the meanings in two part of the sentence and therefore, makes it wrong.........
