I am no professional but I would think that if you are in the 49's in Q and hitting 30 in V, it would be relatively easy to learn a few things and pick up a few points in V (especially compared to picking up a few points (aka 100%) of 1))

The Verbal and Math are approximately equally weighted. You will get a mark for verbal and a mark for math, and then a total score. No one is really sure how the total score is calculated, but you can get a sense of the marks you'll need based on what other people have reported. See the "I just beat the GMAT" forum.
It's probably true that you get one verbal right you get that point and if you get one math right you get that point; however, your final score is weighted against the entire testing population - that's where the %ile comes into play. Since a large population of test takers are non-english speakers and a large number of asian applicants do very well on math, doing well on verbal helps your weighted score measured against the rest of the test taking population. If I remember correctly, a 45 in verbal is considered 99% while a 50 in quant is considered 99%. Those percentages do count towards your final score so in my mind, verbal still has a greater return on investment (assuming you have to grow in that area).

I'm Asian (well, a Canadian born one) and my verbal percentile was much better than my Quant.
I have the same feeling as mayo on this one. It's not that I have specific stats, but if you just browse through the threads in the "I just Beat The GMAT!" section, you'll clearly get the same vibe. It's only natural, after all: native speakers have been using English for all their life and thus feel a lot more comfortable about it as opposed to someone who just takes classes twice a week.
just got done with a gmatprep test, I had 4 repeats in quant and 2 repeats in verbal, all the questions I resolved as if the first time as to now give me an unfair advantage on timing. My score was as follows:

I needed this SOOOO bad because of the 580 I got the other day, my confidence was crushed (but now it is restored).
My question is, considering I had 4 repeats in Q and 2 in verbal, how inflated do you think my 720 is? Thanks in advance for your replies! my gmat is in 29 hours!!!
