1000_SC Problem

Although he is as gifted as, if not more gifted than, many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and his poetry is unpublished.
(A) Although he is as gifted as, if not more gifted than, many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and his poetry is unpublished.
(B) Although he is as gifted, if not more gifted, than many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and with his poetry remaining unpublished.
(C) Although he is as gifted as, if not more gifted than, many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and will not publish his poetry.
(D) Despite his being gifted, if not more gifted than his colleagues, he is extremely modest and will not publish his poetry.
(E) Being a gifted as, or more gifted than, many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and his poetry is unpublished.

Solution is C

B - Although he is as gifted, if not more gifted, than many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and with his poetry remaining unpublished. - uses incomplete idiom
D - Despite his being gifted, if not more gifted than his colleagues, he is extremely modest and will not publish his poetry. - awkward construction
E - Being a gifted as, or more gifted than, many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and his poetry is unpublished. - changes meaning & awkward construction

I think you are confused b/w A & C because both of them are same except for last few words. The reason why C is better than A is C describes that since he is modest he will not publish his poetry. A does not provide that causal relationship. A independently states that his poetry is unpublished

D and E use being ..
B uses a comparision than.
and A has meaning issues which are clearer in C

I think you should refrain from posting queries from st materials...1000 SC material was developed by st.... Go through Beat The Gmat's community policy by eric
