Hi,

I have 4.5 years of experience as a software engineer in India. I came to US in Aug 2010 and haven't been working since. I took the break as my son was only 6 months old at the time. Now I feel like its time for me to pursue my lifelong dream of getting an MBA. But would the 1.5 year gap in my work experience cause an issue for me? Thank you for your help!

Well it's an "issue" in that yes you have to deal with it, and tell them why. (mostly in an optional essay). But it is surmountable.

Thank you Jon for the reply. What i want to know is whether the admissions committee would find this too lame an excuse as I suppose a lot of people(women) might be giving the same reason. Appreciate your help!

Not at all! Buy I can't pretend that in the business world there isn't some prejudice against those businesswomen who make the choice to be mothers. what you have to do is not only tell them the reason, which is a good one, but also present them convincing evidence of your capacity to carry forward and succeed in your stated goals. Your capacity to do this will be just as important!
