Answer is A

Hi All,

Please help me in understanding choice (B) in comparison to choice (A) and really apologize if I haven't put other choices. I have doubt only in these two choices.

I can certainly select (A) as an answer, but when I compared it with (B), I got confused. So, I looked from contrasting point of view. What are these two choices actually contrasting.

(A) contrasts :- "spear points have been found" with "naming of spear point."
(B) contrasts :- "naming of spear points" with "clovis points are spear points...."

O.G says (B), The sentence structure indicates that the expected incompatibility is between the geographically based name of the points and their physical properties, which makes no sense.

I believe it is talking about contrast. Can anyone please clarify my doubt ?

Thanks & Regards
Vinni

As per me , Spear points are found all over NA and they were named Clovis because of New Mexico.

But B conveys meaning Clovis points are spear points which were found all over NA.

(A) Even though Clovis points, spear points with
longitudinal grooves chipped onto their faces,
have been found all over North America, they
are named for the New Mexico site where they
were first discovered in 1932. Answer

(8) Although named for the New Mexico site where
(needs 'they' or 'Clovis points' are) first discovered in 1932,
Clovis points are spear points of longitudinal
grooves chipped onto their faces and have been found all over North
America.

(C) Named for the New Mexico site where they have
been
first discovered in 1932, Clovis points,
spear points of longitudinal grooves chipped
onto the faces, have been found all over North
America.

(D) Spear points with longitudinal grooves that are
chipped onto the faces, Clovis points, even
though named for the New Mexico site where (same as (B))
first discovered in 1932, but were found all over
North America.

(E) While Clovis points are spear points whose faces
have longitudinal grooves chipped into them,
they have been found all over North America,
and are named for the New Mexico site where they
have been first discovered in 1932

@vinni.k - please let me know if the explanation for why (B) doesn't work is helpful :).

chris, thanks and really appreciate for your reply. I got your point why B is incorrect because of the missing subject, but i was thinking this question from the perspective of meaning.
In my opinion, i take this choice opposite to what has been mentioned in (A).

(A) contrasts :- "spear points have been found" with "naming of spear point."
(B) contrasts :- "naming of spear points" with "clovis points are spear points...."

I think both of these choices are opposite to each other. I mean to say contrasting different things.

Okay, hmmmm what if choice (B) was absolutely correct, including the required "subject" and the preposition "of" with "longitudinal grooves", then what ?

I still believe choice (B) is contrasting different elements.

What do you think about this ?

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks & Regards

@vinni

Yes, you are definitely right! Another reason to discount (B) is meaning. The contrast in (A) is that even though the spears are found everywhere, they are named for one specific place.

(B) is contrasting the site where they were found with the fact that "Clovis points are spears." That of course not only changes the original, but also makes little sense.

So definitely another reason why (B) is out :).
