A is a kind of Shell game. The argument does not tell us that violent argument happens only among couples with different sleeping patterns. " ....have more violent arguments than do couples ...". Argument just present comparative remarks, so we cannot rule out the possibility as presented in A.
D clearly states the cause-effect relationship is actually reversed. Since, couples are not happy with each-other so they exhibit different sleeping patterns to avoid other.
