If it is D then why not A.
Both bring new info into the discussion

Infact in the Paragraph
Yorco --------------------spends a far higher total sum per year on wages for such workers.

D. overtime work, which is paid at a substantially higher rate than work done
during the regular work week, is rare at both Yorco and Zortech
Substantially higher rates paid rarely will not lead to far higher sum among large number of full time workers. The effect should be nominal.

A. Zortech spends a higher total sum per year than Yorco does to provide its
hourly wage workers with benefits other than wages
All other things being equal the higher total sum benefits not included in wages paid by Zortech is compensation for higher hourly wages , on average, at Yorco than at Zortech.

But you have to pay attention to WHAT they are spending a higher sum on:
Yorco --------------------spends a far higher total sum per year on wages for such workers.
Beneits OTHER THAN wages are outside the scope of the argument.

Can anyone please explain why C is wrong here with proper reasons.

Thanks in advance!!

I think C only talks about the hourly wage employees and not other types of workers....Am I right??

I had just 2 seconds to complete this question...and got it D.

gmatmachoman's explanation makes sense.... but IMO A,

See mathematically... ppl working for Y = ppl working for Z.

hourly wages of Y = (Fixed benefits + hourly wages) of Z

assumed the above , since this question will fall into the assumptions question category.

so it would mean hourly wages of Y would be more.

Does this choice also not solve part of the jig-saw puzzle..??
